The process of buying jewellery has always been a true experience. First, choosing a specific piece and style; then, choosing the finish, material, stone, and the most extraordinary details. At Relojeria Alemana we want you to have the opportunity of wearing or giving well-chosen jewels. This is why we have prepared these measuring guidelines to make the task of exactly figuring out the ring size you are looking for easier. This is unquestionably a preliminary and essential step to glow with the perfect ring.

Knowing your ring size, step by step

Before the step-by-step, it is important to define three useful concepts to find out the ideal measure.
Ring size. In Spain, it ranges from 4 to 30. For women the most common is between 12 and 21, and for men between 22 and 30.
Finger contour measurement. It is determined by the millimetres of its circumference.
Ring diameter. It refers to the inside diameter of the jewel.
Here is an example to make the correlation among these three data clear: a European size 12 ring is associated with a 52 mm finger contour and a 16.5 mm jewel inside diameter. Relojeria Alemana’s measuring guidelines can be used to check the equivalences. Now, the step-by-step to find out the right size.

1. Measure the base of your finger with a measuring tape

The first step is to measure the base of your finger using a measuring tape. Experience suggests also measuring the knuckle. Since this part is more prominent, there could be a problem if the ring is smaller than it should be.

2. Use other measuring methods

If you don’t have a measuring tape, you can use a piece of string or lace. The idea is to wrap it around the perimeter of the finger’s base and mark the spot where the circle closes, to subsequently measure it with a ruler and know the exact millimetres.

3. Check size against the measurement chart

After measuring, you must check the size chart. If in doubt between two options, it is advisable to choose the largest size. If you require a size that is not on the chart ask our experts.

4. Find size equivalence according to country

Ring sizes are different depending on whether you are in Europe, the United States, or the United Kingdom. For example, a 55 mm contour would be a size 12 in Europe, 6 in the United States, and L ½ in the United Kingdom.

How to get the right ring size to make a gift

If you want to make a surprise gift and get the size right, the best is to take a ring that already fits as a reference and print the guidelines document.
But before this, make sure that the print scale chosen is the right one. For this, set page scaling to “none”. This option can be found in the print dialogue box, pressing Ctrl+P, or opening the menu bar and choosing file > print > scaling.
Print page 3 and check that the 5 cm bar measures exactly that. Then, all you must do is place the ring on top of the circumferences on page 4. Match the inner edge of the ring with the circles and choose the one that fits best.
